New York’s costs and error rate
New York’s FY2025 payment error rate was 13.18%. Counties run SNAP in New York, and county leaders say they’ll carry about $168 million a year of the new 75% administrative cost share unless the state steps in. During the November 2025 federal shutdown, the state declared an emergency and sent $106 million to food banks and pantries, but it didn’t replace SNAP benefits.
