GovBudgets.com respects your privacy — and given the topics we cover, we take it more seriously than most sites. This policy explains, in plain English, what information is collected when you use this site, how it’s used, and the choices you have.

We don’t ask for sensitive personal information, we don’t sell your data, and you can read every guide on this site without creating an account or telling us anything about yourself.

1. Information We Do NOT Collect (Read This First)

Because we write about government assistance programs, this is worth stating up front:

  • We never collect Social Security numbers, benefits case numbers, application details, income documentation, or banking information — not through forms, comments, email, or any other channel.
  • We have no access to any government application system and no connection to any agency’s records.
  • If you accidentally include sensitive information in a comment or email, we will remove or delete it.

2. Information We Collect

Information you choose to give us:

  • Comments — if you leave a comment, we collect the name (or nickname) you enter, your email address (not published), and the comment text.
  • Newsletter — if you subscribe, we collect your email address. That’s it. You can unsubscribe anytime with one click at the bottom of any email.
  • Contact messages — if you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.

Our lawful bases for processing are consent (newsletter, cookies where required) and legitimate interest (site analytics, security, comment moderation).

For California residents (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. This site is intended for adults navigating assistance programs. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, contact us and we will delete it.

Our guides link extensively to official government websites and other external resources. Once you leave GovBudgets.com, this Privacy Policy no longer applies — each site has its own privacy policy. Official government sites (.gov) have their own privacy and security practices, which are generally described on those sites.

10. Data Security

We use reasonable technical measures to protect the site and any information we hold, including HTTPS encryption across the entire site. That said, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure — which is one more reason we’ve designed this site to need as little of your information as possible.

11. Changes to This Policy

If we change this policy, we’ll post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date above. Meaningful changes (such as a new category of data collection) will be noted on the site.
