New York SNAP: How to Apply and Income Limits

How you apply for SNAP in New York depends on where you live. In New York City, apply through ACCESS HRA (website or app), by calling 718-557-1399, or at an HRA SNAP Center. Everywhere else, apply at myBenefits.ny.gov or through your county Department of Social Services; the state hotline is 1-800-342-3009. Most households don’t face an asset test, and New York uses three income limits (130%, 150% or 200% of poverty) depending on your household.

About 2.72 million New Yorkers got SNAP in June 2026, according to USDA.

Work rules in New York

New York started applying the federal 3-month time limit statewide on March 1, 2026, except in Saratoga County. It covers adults 18 to 64 without a child under 14 at home unless they meet 80 hours a month or have an exemption. See SNAP work requirements.
