Florida SNAP: How to Apply and Income Limits

Florida’s SNAP program, called Food Assistance, is run by the Department of Children and Families (DCF). Apply online at MyACCESS (myaccess.myflfamilies.com), which takes about 30 minutes, or get help at a DCF Family Resource Center or community partner. Most households qualify with gross income up to 200% of the poverty line, and most don’t face an asset test. Since April 20, 2026, Florida SNAP can’t buy soda, energy drinks, candy or prepared desserts.

About 2.36 million Floridians got SNAP in June 2026, according to USDA.

Florida SNAP income limits

DCF says most households must have gross income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. DCF doesn’t publish a dollar table, so here are the 200% figures based on USDA’s poverty numbers for October 2026 onward:

Household sizeGross monthly limit (200%, from Oct 1, 2026, estimate)Maximum benefit
1$2,660$306
2$3,608$562
3$4,554$808
4$5,500$1,023
5$6,448$1,217
6$7,394$1,463
7$8,340$1,616
8$9,288$1,841

These are our calculations (twice USDA’s 100% figures) and may differ by a dollar from DCF’s own math. Households also have to pass the net income test after deductions; see SNAP eligibility and income limits.

What you can’t buy in Florida

florida snap soda ban

Florida’s food restriction waiver, approved in August 2025, took effect April 20, 2026 (moved from January 1). For two years, SNAP in Florida can’t buy:

RestrictedExamples
SodaRegular and diet soft drinks
Energy drinksCanned energy drinks
CandyChocolate bars, gummies, hard candy
Prepared dessertsReady-to-eat cakes, pastries and similar items

DCF runs a site, healthysnap.myflfamilies.com, explaining what’s covered. You can still buy these items with cash or another card at checkout. See the SNAP soda and candy ban states list.

No Summer EBT in Florida

Florida didn’t take part in Summer EBT (SUN Bucks) in 2026. Children in Florida can still get free meals at summer meal sites. See Summer EBT.

Work rules in Florida

DCF says people 16 to 64 must meet work requirements. On top of that, the federal 3-month time limit covers adults 18 to 64 without a child under 14 at home, unless they work, volunteer or train 80 hours a month or have an exemption. See SNAP work requirements and SNAP Employment and Training.

Example

A family of four in Tampa: two parents, two kids. One parent earns $3,900 a month; the other stays home. Their gross income is over the federal 130% limit ($3,575) but under Florida’s 200% level (about $5,500), so they pass the gross test. Their SNAP depends on net income after the 20% earnings deduction, the standard deduction, and rent above half their income. Families in this situation often qualify for a partial benefit. See SNAP benefit amounts.

After approval

Florida’s error rate and costs

Florida’s SNAP payment error rate for fiscal 2025 was 12.97%, above the national 10.62%. Under the 2025 law, high error rates will make states pay part of benefit costs starting as soon as fiscal 2028, and Florida already pays 75% of administrative costs from October 2026. News reports say DCF asked the Legislature for about $50 million a year to cover the admin shift. For you, that likely means closer document checks, so keep copies of everything you send.
