The SafeLink customer service number for technical support is 1-800-378-1684, the number SafeLink prints on its own support site at support.safelinkwireless.com. For enrollment and plan changes, the number is 1-800-723-3546 (1-800-SafeLink), which is what Verizon lists for the brand. SafeLink also runs live chat from its support site and a text helpline on short code 611611.
Three numbers means three queues, and calling the wrong one is the most common reason people lose an hour. This page lists every SafeLink customer service channel the company and its parent publish, matches each problem to the one that can fix it, and says where SafeLink publishes nothing at all. For the bigger picture, see our SafeLink Wireless review.
SafeLink customer service numbers and channels
| Contact | What it is for | Where it is published |
|---|---|---|
| 1-800-378-1684 | Technical support and general customer support | SafeLink’s own support site, support.safelinkwireless.com, English and Spanish versions |
| 1-800-723-3546 (1-800-SafeLink) | Enrollment, applying by phone, and plan changes | Verizon’s Lifeline support page, and the support page of SafeLink’s authorized e-retailer |
| 1-888-434-8168 | A phone purchase, order or delivery | shop.safelinkwireless.com, run by Quality One Wireless, a SafeLink authorized e-retailer |
| 611611 (text) | Self-service by keyword: usage, coverage, port-in, lost phone, store finder, ticket status | SafeLink’s text self-service directory at dsweb.safelink.com |
| Live chat | Live agents, stated response time “a few minutes” | support.safelinkwireless.com |
| Español | Spanish support site and Spanish live chat (“Chatea con Nosotros”) | support.safelinkwireless.com/es and safelinkwireless.com/es |
| My SafeLink app | Buy plans, upgrade devices, recertify, check balances, find SafeLink locations | Google Play listing, updated Aug 19, 2026 |
| (800) 876-5753 | The SafeLink phone number shown on its Better Business Bureau profile | bbb.org |
If the phone with the problem is your SafeLink phone, call from a different phone. A dead line cannot reach an agent, and the text helpline needs a working line too.
About hours. SafeLink prints no call-center hours on its own site. A 211 community resource directory lists enrollment as Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and technical support daily 8 a.m. to midnight. That is a third-party listing, so treat it as a rough guide.
Which channel actually fixes which problem
| Your problem | Where to go first | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Application stalled or you never heard back | 1-800-723-3546 | Enrollment owns applications. Tech support cannot see an application that has not become an account yet. |
| Phone has no service, no data, or calls fail | 1-800-378-1684, or text SUPPORT to 611611 | The technical queue. Try the fixes in free government phone not working first. |
| Phone lost or stolen | Text LOST to 611611, then call 1-800-378-1684 | Reporting it stops someone else using the line. See lost or stolen Lifeline phone. |
| Data ran out or slowed down | Text USAGE or SPEED to 611611, then 1-800-378-1684 | USAGE shows what you used; SPEED says whether you were throttled. |
| Moving your number to or from SafeLink | Text PORTIN or SWITCH to 611611, then 1-800-723-3546 | SWITCH lists the details SafeLink needs from your old carrier before you call. |
| Yearly recertification | The Existing Customer area of safelinkwireless.com, the app, or text RECERTIFY to 611611 | Eligibility is federal, not SafeLink’s. See below. |
| Billing on a paid add-on or top-up | 1-800-723-3546 | Paid plans sit with enrollment, not technical support. |
| A phone you bought online has not arrived or is faulty | 1-888-434-8168 | Orders, returns and warranties are handled by Quality One Wireless, not SafeLink. |
| Finding a SafeLink store near you | Text STORE to 611611, or use the app | The honest answer to “SafeLink near me”: SafeLink sells through retail partners, not its own stores, so the list depends on your ZIP. |
The 611611 text line is usually faster than the phone
Text a keyword to 611611, get an automated reply, skip the hold queue.
| Text this to 611611 | What you get |
|---|---|
| USAGE | Your current usage, and PLAN for your plan details |
| PHONE | Your phone number and service end date |
| RECERTIFY | Information about the recertification process |
| LOST | Report a lost or stolen device |
| TICKET | The status of a ticket an agent already opened for you |
| PORTIN or SWITCH | Move your number into SafeLink, and what your old carrier must give you |
| SUPPORT | Troubleshooting, plus APN to fix data settings |
| STORE | Find the nearest retailers by ZIP code |
TICKET is the one most people miss. It saves calling back and starting over.
How to check SafeLink service status and recertification status
The SafeLink home page has an Existing Customer section with two links: “Check your service status” and “Verify your recertification status”. Those are SafeLink’s own tools and the shortest route to both answers. The same page carries a “Lost your Lifeline service? Come back to SafeLink!” link for people who were de-enrolled.
Two other ways to see where you stand: text PHONE or DUE DATE to 611611 for your service end date, or open the My SafeLink app, which lists checking balances and recertifying service among its features.
Two rules decide whether your service keeps running. In SafeLink’s own words, you must “Make a call, send a text or use data (without Wi-Fi) at least once every 30 days,” and you “must verify your eligibility for the SafeLink program once a year.” SafeLink also tells customers to keep the phone switched on so the benefit can land.
Non-usage de-enrollment is not theoretical. In Utah alone, TracFone (SafeLink’s legal entity) reported de-enrolling 1,014 subscribers for non-usage during 2025 in its annual FCC certification. Our guide on how to recertify Lifeline every year covers the 60-day window.
What to have ready before you call
Agents ask for the same things every time. Writing them down before you dial saves a transfer.
- Your SafeLink phone number, or your enrollment or application ID if you are not active yet.
- Your ZIP code. SafeLink offers vary by ZIP, and the agent needs yours to see what you have.
- The last four digits of your Social Security number, the way the application asks for them.
- Your name, address and date of birth as they appear on the application.
- Your old carrier’s name, account number and transfer PIN if you are moving a number.
- Your phone’s IMEI, from dialing *#06#.
- A pen, for the date, the agent’s name and the ticket number.
SafeLink’s home page adds a warning for California applicants: do not start without your name, address, date of birth, last four of your Social Security number, and your current service provider.
When to call the federal Lifeline Support Center instead
SafeLink cannot approve or deny your eligibility. That belongs to the Lifeline National Verifier, run by USAC for the FCC, and SafeLink’s own 2026 FCC certification confirms its recertification runs through the National Verifier rather than a state administrator.
The Lifeline Support Center is 1-800-234-9473, open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern. Press 1 for English or 2 for Spanish. USAC also takes email at [email protected].
| Question | Who owns the answer |
|---|---|
| “Am I eligible for Lifeline?” | The National Verifier, 1-800-234-9473 |
| “Was my eligibility application approved?” | The National Verifier. See how to check Lifeline application status |
| “I am approved, so where is my SafeLink service?” | SafeLink, 1-800-723-3546 |
| “Why was I denied?” | The National Verifier, which holds the documents |
| “Someone else is using my benefit” | SafeLink first, then USAC |
| “My phone stopped working” | SafeLink, 1-800-378-1684 |
Not sure which system you are stuck in? Our Lifeline National Verifier guide shows where the federal step ends and the company step begins. New applicants can start with how to apply for Lifeline.
Live chat, Spanish, and what SafeLink does not publish
Live chat is the one SafeLink customer service channel with a stated time. The support site invites you to “Chat with one of our agents live. We will get back to you in a few minutes.” Chat also works when your phone has no service, because you use another device.
The Spanish support site at support.safelinkwireless.com/es is a full translation, with Spanish chat and a Spanish FAQ set. The main site has an Español link in its top navigation, and the app lists English and Spanish.
Now the honest gaps, checked on Sept 21, 2026:
- No TTY number. SafeLink publishes none. Deaf and hard-of-hearing customers can dial 711, the free federal telecommunications relay service, and ask the operator to connect to any SafeLink number.
- No dedicated Spanish phone line. The Spanish support site lists the same 1-800-378-1684 as the English one.
- No hold-time data. No average wait, no callback option, no queue position. Anyone quoting you a SafeLink hold time is guessing.
- No support email address. SafeLink routes written contact through chat, not an inbox.
The complaint record, stated plainly
SafeLink is a real, currently operating Lifeline provider. TracFone Wireless, Inc., doing business as SafeLink Wireless, filed its annual FCC Lifeline certification on Jan 23, 2026, and USAC data shows claims through the September 2026 disbursement month. Verizon lists it as one of its three prepaid Lifeline brands.
The service record is weaker than the paperwork. As of Sept 21, 2026, SafeLink Wireless is not BBB accredited, and its BBB profile shows 508 complaints closed in three years, 100 of them in the last 12 months: 332 service or repair, 58 customer service, 53 product, 21 order, 19 sales and advertising, 15 delivery and 10 billing. BBB customer reviews average 1.19 out of 5 across 117 reviews. No BBB letter grade was displayed on that date.
Read those numbers in context. SafeLink serves millions of subscriber-months a year, and complaint sites attract unhappy people more than happy ones. The largest category, service and repair, is what this page is about: knowing which number to call.
Common problems and quick fixes
Phone not working at all. Restart it, check the line was used in the last 30 days, and text APN to 611611 to reset data settings. Then call 1-800-378-1684 from another phone. Our free government phone not working guide has the full checklist.
Lost or stolen phone. Text LOST to 611611, then call technical support. SafeLink publishes a lost, stolen or damaged replacement FAQ but no replacement fee and no timeframe, so ask the agent for both and write the answer down.
Benefit disappeared this month. The usual causes are the 30-day usage rule and a missed yearly recertification. Check your service status on SafeLink’s site, then your recertification status.
You want to leave SafeLink. Switching to another Lifeline company does not require canceling first; the new company handles the transfer. To stop the benefit, see how to cancel or de-enroll from Lifeline. Federal rules give a provider two business days to de-enroll you once you ask.
If SafeLink support cannot resolve it
You have three free escalation routes.
1. The FCC. File an informal complaint at consumercomplaints.fcc.gov under Phone Issues, which covers billing, equipment, coverage, number porting and unlocking. You can also call 1-888-225-5322, or 1-844-432-2275 by videophone. The FCC serves qualifying complaints on the provider, which must then respond in writing within 30 days. That written response is often what finally moves a stuck case.
2. Your state utility commission. Most states regulate telephone service through a public utilities or public service commission, and many take Lifeline complaints. NARUC publishes a linked directory of all of them.
3. California. On California LifeLine, the CPUC Consumer Affairs Branch handles disputes with regulated telephone providers. Call 1-800-649-7570, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., use the CPUC online complaint form, or write to the Consumer Affairs Branch, California Public Utilities Commission, 505 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94102-3298. CPUC records the carrier as “TracFone Wireless, Inc., dba SafeLink Wireless (U-4231-C)”. Our California LifeLine guide covers the state program.
